What this tool does

Convert hours and minutes to decimal hours for time sheets, payroll estimates, and billing. Minutes are a fraction of 60, so they must be divided by 60 rather than written as digits after a decimal point.

Calculation method

  1. Validate that minutes are between 0 and 59.
  2. Divide the minute value by 60.
  3. Add that fraction to the whole hours and display the decimal-hour total.

Example: convert 2 hours 30 minutes

Input: Hours: 2; Minutes: 30

Result: 2.5 decimal hours

Thirty minutes is 30 ÷ 60 = 0.5 hour. It is not 0.30 hour, which would equal only 18 minutes.
