Calculate the sale price, discount amount, and savings percentage.

Quick guide

How to use the Percent Off Calculator

  1. Enter or choose original price, discount (%).
  2. Select Calculate discount.
  3. Review the main result, supporting details, and calculation method.
  4. Copy the result or download generated files when that option is available.

What this tool does

Calculate the discount amount and final sale price from an original price and a percentage reduction. The tool keeps the savings and amount due separate so the result is easy to verify.

Calculation method

  1. Convert the entered percentage to a decimal by dividing by 100.
  2. Multiply the original price by that decimal to find the discount amount.
  3. Subtract the discount from the original price to find the sale price.

Example: 25% off $120

Input: Original price: $120; Discount: 25%

Result: Discount: $30; Sale price: $90

Twenty-five percent of 120 is 0.25 × 120 = 30. Subtracting 30 from 120 leaves 90.

Accuracy tips and common mistakes

  • Sales tax is usually applied after the discount and is not included here.
  • For stacked discounts, apply each discount sequentially rather than adding percentages.
  • Check whether a coupon excludes particular items or has a maximum saving.
