What this tool does

Convert a signed binary integer to decimal and hexadecimal. Each bit is multiplied by its power-of-two place value, beginning with 2⁰ at the rightmost digit.

Calculation method

  1. Validate that the input contains only an optional sign and binary digits 0 or 1.
  2. Multiply each set bit by its power-of-two place value and add the values.
  3. Apply the sign and show the matching decimal and hexadecimal forms.

Example: convert binary 101010

Input: Binary value: 101010

Result: Decimal: 42; Hexadecimal: 2A

The set bits represent 32 + 8 + 2, which totals 42. Grouping as 0010 1010 produces hexadecimal 2A.

Accuracy tips and common mistakes
