What this tool does

Convert a base-10 integer to hexadecimal, the base-16 notation used in programming, memory addresses, and color values. Hexadecimal uses digits 0–9 followed by A–F for decimal values 10–15.

Calculation method

  1. Divide the decimal integer by 16 and record the remainder.
  2. Convert remainders from 10 through 15 to A through F.
  3. Repeat with the quotient and read the remainders from last to first.

Example: convert decimal 255

Input: Decimal integer: 255

Result: Hexadecimal: FF

255 ÷ 16 gives quotient 15 and remainder 15. Both values map to F, producing FF.

Practical uses

  • Programming and debugging
  • CSS color components
  • Memory and byte inspection
  • Digital electronics

Accuracy tips and common mistakes

  • The input must be a whole number.
  • A leading 0x is a programming convention and is not part of the hexadecimal value itself.
  • Letter case does not change the numeric value of A–F.
